Get a 5 Star Hotel Look For Your BedroomWe all love the soothing atmosphere, clean lines and luxurious bedding that we see in hotel rooms, but how do we recreate that feel at home? Here are a few tips on how to achieve that peaceful feeling upon entering your own master retreat and how to accomplish it on a budget. The first and most important rule is to declutter! Sorry, but this is a necessary step to feeling refreshed when you enter the room. Most of the little things scattered about the room are distracting and calling out to you every time you walk in. Remove, put away or give away anything that is saying "I require you to do something with me" such as unfinished projects, knick knacks that need dusting, laundry, sewing, crafts, etc. You need to find another "home" for these items that will place them out-of-sight of your new retreat area. Next, declutter your walls! Just several large art pieces that work with your furniture and theme is all you need. A tip to save money, buy streched canvas art pieces or be creative and make your own. There are many places on the web to help you with this. Use greenery to help fill-in a few bare spots. Remember...less is better in order to achieve that relaxed hotel feel. Use the soothing colors of nature; woods, sea or dessert, noting that taupe colors work best for walls then use the other colors in the palet for accent pieces and fabrics. Keep personal photos for your dresser in a grouping of 2 or 3 max with the largest being an 8x10 and scaling down in size from that. Place greenery behind the photos and for balance, place two varied-height candles sticks or pottery pieces and a decorative box on opposite side. Your bed, headboard and bedding should be the statement piece of the room. Can't afford a new bed...try making yours more comfortable by adding a pillow-top mattress pad or a 2 or 3 inch memory foam pad. Next, dress your bed in 300 thread count or more, cotton sheets; perferably white as it can be laundered in hot water with bleach helping keep things clean, fresh and allergy free. Use a fluffy comforter with a simple band-trimed bedskirt to achive simplicity. No headboard? Make a fabric covered one yourself and save in the process. Create a small seating area if room allows. Remember to shop for bargins and clearence items whenever possible. Funiture should also be kept simple. Using a bedside table with legs gives the room a more "airy" look and creates an open feeling. Add glass lamps to scale. You don't have to spend a lot to get that comfortable 5 star look! |
